Sparty Fever!!

I went to home games forever. As a kid, second grader, walking past the fire station and little grocery store, the only brick-and-mortar structures amid all the barracks and quonset huts that were south campus back in the day; selling programs as a teen (thanks Jim Bowers!); as a student; later tailgating with my parents for a long, long time... parking in the library lot, just across the Red Cedar from the stadium. Then things got busier and we relocated to Hort Building lots. Then... well, my folks got old and it was me and Linda. Then Linda got less and less... enthusiastic.

Then James and I picked up. Parking on West Circle between the Virgin Islands and the band practice field, hard by Cowles House. Later still, parking behind the dorms, and when that got too busy, parking across MI Ave. in an alley. Always one step ahead of fees and parking tickets...

Great times, watching the band warm up and such with James. Then, when he got into percussion, walking with the drum line as the band marched past Sparty to the stadium. Wow. Great, great times.

And they built the press box/high roller addition to the stadium, and it covered us from rain and sun, two rows from the top of the upper deck. The seats were on the 38, south side. Binoculars were required (well, for me; others seemed to see everything just fine).

Yesterday, George Brookover offered me his tickets, section 24, lower bowl. I'm sure our losing streak had nothing to do with the share. It was all about my powers to lead them to victory!

The band formed up on West Circle in the street in front of IM Circle, and yes, they still have a drum line:

Inside the stadium, there's a great perspective from the seats. I tried to catch the drum major doing the plume plant, but my tech skills are limited. Here's a still, and there's the drum major:

And yes, this day, Sparty was successful. 49-0. That's a lot of success!! It seems the sun shone on Sparty this fine day:
