Photos II
I think my career, and family stuff, kept my photo interests at bay. I shot hundreds of frames at family get-togethers, and authorized hundreds more as the boat driver cannot take shots of kids on tubes crashing into each other. Well, should not. Things can get ugly out there!!
This was 2008, frame number 257 on my new D80 Nikon. Ten years after I left a 25-year career in Lansing School District, and began work as an independent consultant.
So fast-forward another decade, almost. 2017. My high school co-graduate, Rob Shipman, posts a shot he took on the Oregon coast.
I'm hooked again!!
Two huge changes in just the last few months. First, Photoshop. I'd never really used it. Now James is teaching me, and I'm inspired. And Rob asked me if I was using Lightroom. I took that as a hint, researched it, and am now on day five of the 30-day trial. I'm sure I'll subscribe.
And, change two, I shoot in RAW now. I know why.
For a long time, with the D80, I shot in NEF+jpeg fine. And then I quit the NEF. And then went back to it. Now, I'm all NEF. Too nerdy? Deal with it! That's why there's Google!!!!
Lucky me, I discovered our San Diego trip in 2013, I shot in NEF+jpeg fine! I will be processing and posting stuff from that vacay as I move forward.
For now, I have a couple things to post:
This is a non-Photoshop jpg of a sunrise over the field behind my house in DeWitt. My only processing was Google Picasa. Shot May 20, 2017.
Above, this was my first detailed Photoshop lesson with James. Executed in the purple cabin in Indian River (note to self - sorry!). I worked hard on the sky.
The entrance to the Iroquois Hotel restaurant, Mackinac Island. I learned how to remove a person's shadow and keep the brick pattern. Gentle James at the helm. The original shot, I had to run down the street to snap as the sun was very spotty that day.
This shot, I learned how to bring up detail on the porch, the right-hand side of the corner pillar closest to the camera. Note that is was the same day as the shot above, and there's no sun...
This shot, the Photoshopping occurred with James back in Chicago but advising me on tweaks... Sturgeon Bay at what Linda and I know as Bliss Township Park.
Same location as above, totally different emphasis... my first solo Photoshopping experience.
My cousin Donna in KY poked me on FB about the northern lights might be viewable in my area... I saw none but snagged this moon shot July 17, 2017.
And as the sun rose on moonshot day, I turned around to see how the light was falling on the crop...
So there it is. Thanks to Gary Hobbs, and Rob Shipman, I'm back on track, camera in hand. The last frame I shot was number 5923. And now I realize that the D80 is about ten years old.
Linda, can I buy a new camera soon?????
