Savannah 2023 part five
I knew there were other photos and other content to blog about. Sadly, my laptop sorta-croaked, in that the LCD panel went all psychedelic on me... pretty colors and patterns and the occasional sighting of objects I wanted to scrutinize, but could not.
So, being me, I went on the Google. Turned out there was a chance the problem was a $15 part. Just order it (easy) and install it (hard). After scouring the tools @ Lowes and Harbor Freight and striking out, I resorted to, yep, Amazon, and ordered a set of small screwdriver bits. They had names I've never heard of. Slotted I have, Phillips as well, and Torx (not small enough) but Pentalobe? Triwing?
OMG.
Thank you SeƱor Bezos.
Then, armed with the right Pentalobe, I bravely undid the screws on the case.
End of story.
Well, the story of me accessing the innards. Because I did try the next steps: the non-skid pad, check. The suction cups, check. (I had saved old phone car-mounts, as I save basically everything I've ever acquired).
But the case wouldn't budge.
Yes I did the YouTubes. I saw that you had to push this way, then down, then over, sort of like WWF moves but on a mini-scale, until the clips "gave way". Well, they never gave.
So I took it to the shop, and the part that I'd bought, and was ready to at last pay actual money for someone to truly repair this laptop, but alas... the ribbon I had bought was not the one that broke on Apples (ever heard of Flexgate?? I hadn't until this adventure). Those cables were folded inside the case, and when you opened or closed the contraption, they'd flex. Ah, I see.
But the cable I bought was just to connect the video board to the mother board, and it never flexed. They replaced it, and there was no change in the screen. So they put the old one back in, and gave me back the new one, and charged me... nada. Wouldn't even take a tip.
I'll go back there, for sure.
Plus the not-needed part is headed back to San Luis Obispo for a refund from there.
And I ordered a brand-spanking new laptop, MacBook Pro 14" M2 chip, 32 gigs of RAM, 512 gig SSD, and am in the middle of reconfiguring it as Sinatra sang, my way.
All this as an excuse for the tardiness of parts four, five, and the bright and shiny upcoming and new part six, of the Savannah saga.
