Taking heed

The first couple of times I lost my wedding ring, it just sort of fell off my finger and to the floor. Once in the garage, once in the house, I retrieved it hastily, and took no heed.

Then, I lost it outside, doing car wash work.

It was gone.

I searched and searched, and came up empty. How do you tell your wife that you lost your wedding ring?

But I did, and she looked, and nada.

The next day (note, I slept on not having my wedding ring), we were staging to take Enzo to daycare, and there on the driveway, on the passenger side of the truck, Linda found my ring.

"Go get it sized," she directed me. Of course, I did not. It's a seasonal thing. Ambient temps. Sometimes my rings are loose, sometimes they're tight. I'll just live with it.

Sure.

Months later, I took all my old tax stuff to Staples to recycle it. Thirteen pounds, sixteen dollars. Ok, stuff some in the slot, then more, then more, until it's all in the locked bin. So I left and drove to scout out a route to a restaurant we planned to visit for our anniversary. Michigan Ave is torn up, and so I had found a workaround on Google Maps, and since it was close by Staples...

And once I'd successfully navigated to Toscana and was feeling pretty damn smug...

Until I realized I didn't have my wedding ring.

On. this, my anniversary, April 1.

Shit!!!!

Panic drove back to Staples, went straight to the recycle bin, the clerk recognized me and I told her what had happened, and as I closed in on the bin... it was unlocked!!!

Not the best discovery as it's supposed to be a secure transfer point, but I was so happy! She told me not to root around until she got a manager, which, of course... and when permitted I started sifting though all the stuff I'd just put in there, and about six or eight inches in, on the left side (of course)... there it was.

I won't be wearing my wedding ring to our celebration dinner tomorrow night. The ring is being sized. From a ten-and-a-half to nine. My MSU class ring too.

So now will I listen to Linda?

Perhaps...

Postsript: the sizing has been effected, and the shine restored to both rings, by the son of the jeweler who originally discovered and supplied the wedding rings, just a few short years ago. Now, to refurb the ring holders...
